Paul is a native of Toledo and a business graduate of the University of Toledo. Barb spent her grade school years in Buffalo, New York, before returning to Toledo. She attended Mary Manse College and Paul and Barb were married in Toledo in 1968.

They lived in Bryan, Ohio, from 1977 through 1992 where Paul joined the Rotary Club of Bryan in 1978 and became a Paul Harris Fellow. He was President in 1990-1991, the fiftieth anniversary year of the Bryan Rotary Club, where he led the way in bringing women into the Club. After three years in the NYC area, Barb and Paul relocated to the Toledo area. Paul is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Reynolds Corners in Toledo, was a Director of the Club and the Club’s Foundation and served as President in 2003-2004. Paul and Barb were Chairs for both the April, 2006 and 2007 District 6600 Conferences.

From a business perspective, Paul was a manager at Ernst & Young and then was a Vice President at several international manufacturing companies. Presently, he provides value added services (strategic thinking and planning, profit improvement techniques, partnering approaches) to executive teams through his firm, Paul Smith and Associates LLC. Paul is also affiliated with Source Companies GLR and the Business Growth Alliance, LLC, headquartered in Pittsburgh, providing growth advisory and investment banking services to owners of middle market businesses. He is a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and the Detroit Chapters of both the Association for Corporate Growth and Financial Executives International.

Paul and Barb continue to be active in their community and church as volunteers. Paul has been Chair/President of several not for profit and charitable organizations.

They currently reside in Sylvania, Ohio and have three grown daughters, Jennifer, Deborah and Bethany, and four grandchildren, ages one through seven.
