Jim is a 1956 graduate of Wapakoneta Blume High School and a 1961 graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree. He received an MBA from Ohio State University in 1966 and has been a Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio since 1967.

He married Janice (Jan), a high school classmate in 1961. She has a BS in Home Economics also from Ohio University. She taught school in Celina and Frankfort and later graduated from United Theological Seminary in 2000 with Master of Theological Studies degree. She retired two years ago from the Wayne Street United Methodist Church where she was Church Visitation Pastor.

Jim and Jan have two children, Sharon and Steve. Sharon has degrees from DePauw University, University of North Carolina and Vanderbilt University. She lives in Gastonia, North Carolina where she is wellness coordinator for Caremont Health Care System.

Steve lives in Madison Alabama with his wife Shrail. He is employed as Staff Engineer in the computer industry. He has degrees from Purdue University and the University of Alabama.

From 1961-1967, Jim was employed in Chillicothe, Ohio as a project engineer in a paper mill. In 1967 he became a part of St. Marys Hardware, a family owned business. He served twenty years as President and CEO of the organization. He is now retired.

Jim has been a St. Marys Rotarian since 1968 where he has served on most all of the club committees. He served two terms on the Board of Directors and was elected Club President in 1986-1987.

At the district level, Jim has three terms as Assistant Governor, three terms as District Chairman of Community Service, three terms as District Grant Subcommittee Chairman and a couple of terms as MESA Treasurer.

He and Jan attended the UNIENDO America Project Fairs in Central America representing District 6600 and MESA eight years in a row. Jim has attended two Rotary International Conventions, was honored as St. Marys Rotarian of the Year and has been awarded The Rotary Four Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians. He is a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation.

Jim has been very active in his church and many community, business and fraternal organizations in St. Marys.
